Director of Children’s Formation

STATUS: Full-time (40 hrs/wk), in-office and remote

SALARY: $56,485/annual

The Director of Children’s Formation works with the Director of Evangelization to design, develop, and deliver inspiring, comprehensive faith formation programming for preschool and elementary school-aged children, including preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Communion.


This person is a professional catechetical leader who is a talented teacher, coach, and learner.  This individual loves God, is joyful and knowledgeable about the Catholic faith, enjoys working with people, and has a heart for service. This person lives in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, regularly practicing and growing in the faith. 


As a member of the Faith Formation Team and parish staff, the Director of Children’s Formation works with other staff members to foster and maintain a collaborative, cohesive, positive team environment.  This position allows for some remote work, but requires regular office hours as well as in-person instruction and program coordination, typically on nights and weekends.


Responsibilities:

Instructional Design

  • Design and implement comprehensive, inspiring, and attractive Children’s Faith Formation (K-5th grade) and Sacrament Preparation Programs (typically 2nd grade).  These will be two distinct programs with different curriculum, serving unique populations.
  • Collaborate with Director of Evangelization to evaluate and select curriculum for each program, including supplemental  materials.
  • Develop session plans/lessons using the selected curriculum that are rigorous but enjoyable, interactive, and engaging.
  • Develop and publish a schedule that meets the needs of families, takes into account facility constraints, and is mapped appropriately to the curriculum and Liturgical Calendar.
  • Enthusiastically provide access and inclusion for children with special learning needs, differentiating instruction when needed.
  • Work with Director of Evangelization and families to ensure that the needs of children in irregular sacramental situations (confirmed at a young age, did not receive first Communion in 2nd grade, etc.) are met appropriate.

Children’s Formation Program (K-5th Grade)

  •  Serve as the primary instructor for sessions, teaching concepts enthusiastically and in conformity to the faith.
  • Recruit and train additional volunteer catechists, as needed.
  • Procure supplies for all activities, practicing good stewardship through prudent purchasing and appropriate resource management.
  • Supervise volunteers.
  • Prepare and mange all aspects of sessions, including supervision, setup, cleanup, and creating a welcoming environment (sign-in table, name tags, etc.).
  • Track session attendance.

First Reconciliation (2nd Grade)

  • Perform all tasks listed for Instruction and Children’s Formation Program above.
  • Sacrament specific tasks:
  • Provide specific instruction to children as to how to make an examination of conscience and a good confession.  Familiarize them with the confessional and the appropriate responses.
  • Work with Liturgy Team to schedule a date for First Reconciliation in December or January, based on pastor’s schedule and facility availability.  Reserve facility and communicate with participant families and staff.
  •  Work with Director of Liturgy to schedule additional priests for the celebration of First Reconciliation, as needed.
  • Be present to coordinate the day.

  • First Holy Communion (2nd Grade)

    • Perform all tasks listed for Instruction and Children’s Formation Program above.
    • Sacrament specific tasks:
    • Provide specific instruction to children as to how to receive communion and conduct rehearsals for the Liturgy.
    • Work with Liturgy Team to schedule dates.
    • Schedule each child for a specific Mass date and time where they will receive.
    • Communicate proactively with participant families, and staff, as appropriate.
    •  Be present to coordinate the day. Work with the Director of Liturgy and leaders of liturgical ministries (i.e., altar servers, hospitality ministers, etc.) to ensure appropriate support.
    • Develop a seating plan for the sacrament in accordance with guidelines agreed to by the Pastor and Liturgy Team.

     

    Vacation Bible School (Ages 4 yrs - 5th Grade)

    •  Implement a week-long Vacation Bible School every summer.
    • Study, preview, and select appropriate curriculum or program.
    • Recruit and train volunteer team(s) to support and implement the program.
    • Decorate according to the theme, as appropriate, creating an attractive environment for the children. 
    • Procure supplies for all activities.
    • Practice good stewardship through prudent purchasing and appropriate resource management.
    • Supervise and ensure proper set-up prior to program start and cleanup at the conclusion of programming on Friday.

     

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Records Management
    • Accept and process registrations for all programs in a timely manner.
    • Maintain attendance records for all programming
    • Maintain records of waivers, permissions, and other legal documentation, as well registration forms.
    • Collect and maintain files of all documentation required for each participant to receive the sacraments and ensure all eligibility requirements are met.
    • Submit all sacraments for recording in an organized and timely manner.
    • Manage program budget and submit receipts and reimbursement requests in a timely fashion.
    •  Communication
    • Promote Children’s Faith Formation activities and programming regularly through the parish bulletin, website, flyers, etc.
    • Establish and maintain positive relationships with families.
    • Collaborate and communicate regularly with staff and volunteers.
    •  Build relationships among participants and with the Church community.
    • Volunteer Management
    • Recruit and train volunteers to assist in various roles.
    • Facilitate regular training sessions for all volunteer catechists throughout the year.
    • Ensure all volunteers have met Safe Environment requirements prior to serving in any capacity.
    • Technology Literacy
    •  Must be comfortable with a variety of technology and tools and be willing to learn.
    • Must enthusiastically embrace the use of software to increase productivity and produce high-quality, professional looking materials.
    • Minimum requirements include Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel) and Outlook for email management.  Canva, Flocknote, Parish Soft are a plus.

    Director of Facilities

    TEAM: Business Operations Team

    STATUS: Full-time salaried, in-office/onsite (40 hrs/wk)

    Salary: $56,485/annual


    The Director of Facilities oversees the maintenance of parish property, keeping the building, grounds, and equipment clean and well-preserved, making repairs as needed, and supervising contractors when appropriate.  This position is dedicated to ensuring staff, parishioners and visitors find our campus to be safe, comfortable, and inviting.  The Director is also responsible for supervising contracted work and maintaining parish contracts for maintenance services in accordance with Diocesan guidelines, as well as state and local laws.    


    This position is primarily onsite, with occasional nights and weekends required, based on the needs of the parish. This role requires a friendly, helpful, person with good judgment and a heart for serving the staff and community.  This individual takes pride in his or her work and cares for church property as if it were his or her own.


    Responsibilities:

    Oversee Maintenance of Buildings, Equipment and Grounds

    • Schedule preventive maintenance of equipment by a licensed contractor (HVAC, Fire Suppression system, elevator, etc.)
    • Identify potential issues with buildings or equipment and take action to avoid failures, outages, or unnecessary expense.
    • Perform routine maintenance and monitoring of equipment on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, as needed
    • Perform minor repairs of building and equipment, arranging major repairs with a licensed contractor when necessary
    • Monitor and adjust heating and cooling systems in all buildings as building usage, staff schedules, or seasons change
    • Inspect and monitor buildings and grounds for safety concerns, taking action as needed
    • Maintain Baptismal Font and pool
      • Perform weekly maintenance of font, including topping off water level, managing chemical levels, and making adjustments to flow level for various liturgical events, as needed. 
      • Prepare font and pool annually for immersion baptisms at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday.
        • Empty font on Holy Thursday and perform annual cleaning
        • Refill font and pool following Good Friday Service, ensuring pool is a comfortable temperature by Saturday evening.
    • Maintain rectory, including identifying potential issues, performing routine maintenance, making minor repairs, contracting for larger repairs when necessary.
    • Mow all grassy areas, including native grass, regularly.  Fertilize as needed.
    • Monitor outdoor sprinkler system, making regular adjustments and minor repairs as needed.  Arrange major repairs with vendors when necessary.
    • Provide snow removal from rectory driveway and parking lots.  Clear sidewalks in order to ensure all visitors to the campus are safe.
    • Research and find appropriate vendors for larger projects, as needed
      • Solicit bids and consult with Business Manager for approval of costs
      • Obtain appropriate insurance certificates
      • Supervise or Manage the work being performed
      • Keep contracts up to date and provide copies to Business Manager

     

    Oversee Cleaning of Property

    • Supervise contracted cleaning crew and provide feedback regarding the quality of their work
      • Ensure daily cleaning of all interior areas, exterior entrance and walkways is completed for Church, Chapel, and all public spaces
      • Ensure rectory is cleaned bi-weekly
    • Contract additional cleaning as requested for special celebrations such as Christmas and Easter
    • Wax all hard surface floors as needed
    • Wash Windows as needed
    • Order and stock cleaning supplies and supplies for restrooms

     

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Monitor security system and respond to alarms as needed
    • Lock, unlock, and monitor buildings per regular schedule and occasionally on evenings or weekends as requested
    • Move fixtures, including tables and chairs, and assist with the setup of special events and celebrations
    • Consult with staff regarding scheduling of inspections and major maintenance (floor polishing, painting, etc.) to ensure important events and celebrations are not disrupted
    • Consult with pastor regarding scheduling of any work to be done at the rectory
    • Schedule and lead walk-throughs with insurance company and any other necessary agencies (elevator inspector, water, fire system, etc.) to ensure all systems are code compliant and operating properly
