Becoming Catholic

Are you interested in Becoming Catholic?

We would love to assist you and/or your children in the process of growing in relationship with God through full initiation into the Catholic Church.

What is OCIA (Formerly RCIA and the RCIC/T)?

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) and Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, Adapted for Children/Teens (OCIC/T) are the processes established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. The Rite speaks of conversion as a “spiritual journey”. Centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church he founded, this journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, significant experience of the parish community, and commitment to the liturgical and moral life of the Catholic faithful.[1]

Who is OCIA and OCIC/T for?

  • Persons in need of Baptism.
  • Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic.
  • Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.

RCIC is for children age 7-12 who have not been baptized.

RCIT is for children in 7th-12th grade who have not been baptized.

If a child has been baptized but has not received their First Reconciliation and First Communion, and is in 6th-7th Grade, they will participate in a modified RCIT track, along with attending Youth Group, receiving their First Reconciliation and First Communion alongside other Faith Formation students in the fall and spring, respectively.

How long is the OCIA and OCIC/T process?

The time varies, but is rarely shorter than six months or longer than three years. The Church greatly respects the time each person needs for conversion and decision.

What is the structure of OCIA and OCIC/T?

Adult sessions meet weekly on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:pm, begins August 28, 2023

OCIC/T sessions meet monthly on select Sundays, 3:30-4:45pm.

For OCIC/T, at least one parent (both are welcome!) is required to participate in the monthly sessions with their child.
