Becoming Catholic

Are you interested in Becoming Catholic?

We would love to assist you and/or your children in the process of growing in a relationship with God through full initiation into the Catholic Church. Our journeys in faith are all different. Let’s take the first step together.

What is OCIA (Formerly RCIA)?

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. The Rite speaks of conversion as a “spiritual journey”. Centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church he founded, this journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, significant experience of the parish community, and commitment to the liturgical and moral life of the Catholic faithful.

Who is OCIA for?

  • Persons in need of Baptism.
  • Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic.
  • Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.

OCIA-Children is for children aged 7-12 who have not been baptized.

OCIA-Teen is for children in 7th-12th grade who have not been baptized.

If a child has been baptized but has not received their First Reconciliation and First Communion, and is in 6th-7th Grade, they will participate in a modified OCIA-Teen track, along with attending Youth Group, receiving their First Reconciliation and First Communion alongside other Faith Formation students in the fall and spring, respectively.

How long is the OCIA process?

The time varies, but is rarely shorter than six months or longer than three years. The Church greatly respects the time each person needs for conversion and decision.

What is the structure of OCIA?

Adults will gather on Wednesdays from 6:45-8:45 pm, beginning on 9/10 and ending 5/13 (with breaks corresponding to the Douglas County School District).

Children and teenagers will meet on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 pm, beginning 9/10 and ending 5/13 (with breaks corresponding to the Douglas County School District). Some classes will be done at home as a family.
