Generations of Faith
We are in our third year of a new approach to Faith Formation in our parish, joining many parishes across the nation who offer a comprehensive and compelling vision of formation and learning: lifelong, for all ages and generations and rooted in the life of the Church. There will be opportunities for all members of our parish to register.
Families with children, who are not currently registered and would like to register for Religious Education should attend one of the following meetings in our Christi Center, room 3,4.
Tuesday, May 25, 7 - 8:30pm
Sunday, August 8, 9 - 10:30am
Wednesday, August 25, 7 - 8:30pm
If you missed the last session of GOF this year, you will need to contact our offices to pick up registration information.
Sacrament Processes
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist:
Children are required to have completed the previous year of formal religious studies and ongoing participation in religious education or Catholic schooling. Children show readiness signs for the sacraments of Reconciliation (penance) and Communion as early as second grade. Parents and children together participate in immediate preparation sessions for celebrating each sacrament. First Communion is celebrated in groups of 7 children at regularly scheduled Masses on weekends. Participate by registering for Generations of Faith and Sacrament prep. See GOF information meetings above.
First Reconciliation -- See parenthesis for (begin time and celebration times). Session 1 (late October, mid November); Session 2 (January, late February); Session 3 (May, mid June).
First Communion - See parenthesis for (begin and range of celebration dates) Session 1: (mid-November, late January to early February), Session 2: (late January, mid-April through mid-June), Session 3 (early April, June through August). Please note: Children can be signed up for at most one sacrament program in one season.
Confirmation:
Confirmation preparation includes participation in faith development through middle school and high school. Young people are required to have completed the previous year of formal religious studies. This sacrament of initiation into the life of the Church is an opportunity for discernment rather than accumulation of facts about Catholicism. Immediate preparation classes begin in the fall for young people age 15 or older (by spring of 2011). Participate by registering for Generations of Faith and Sacrament prep. See GOF information meetings above.
